MiniMax announced yesterday the official launch of its latest AI model, Minimax M3.1-Flash, with model weights to be released on October 23. The total parameter count of this model has not yet been disclosed. MiniMax claims that M3.1-Flash triples online inference speed and reduces usage costs by 70%. It also achieves a 'generational leap' in areas such as agent tasks, programming, computer usage, and cybersecurity.
However, according to reports, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has issued a notice requiring the removal of Chinese artificial intelligence (AI) model DeepSeek and third-party services developed using this model from information technology systems of U.S. federal civilian agencies.
DHS also prohibits U.S. federal civilian agencies from procuring DeepSeek products and third-party services built upon DeepSeek. DHS stated that the DeepSeek model poses multiple threat vectors and expressed concerns that using the product could result in sensitive data being transmitted to China, especially when used by U.S. government employees or contractors.
