France unrest spreads, Italy sees riots as Milan luxury stores looted, authorities deploy 500 troops to stabilize

ET Intelligence (Special Correspondent, 20th): The wave of protests in France over rising cost of living has spread to several European countries. Over the weekend, riots occurred for several consecutive days in cities such as Milan and Bologna in Italy. The Italian government has deployed 500 soldiers to Milan, home to many luxury stores, to maintain public order.

Numerous high-end stores in Milan were looted and damaged during the unrest, prompting many shops to remove their merchandise and close down temporarily.

Italian Prime Minister Meloni condemned the violent acts of the protesters and will convene a cabinet meeting on Tuesday to discuss the situation and security measures. (yc)
